Discovering a new coffee roaster is like winning the coffee lottery!
In episode 86, Genny spoke with Melanie Ireton, owner of Sassy Bean Coffee Co located in Perth, Ontario. Genny discovered Sassy Bean while scrolling through Instagram one day, and was intrigued first by the name, which she thought sounded spunky and confident, and then by the descriptions of the coffee blends that she discovered on their website. Of course, Genny ordered a bag of the “Feisty Fiona” because dark roast and she identified with the character!
An artisanal woman owned company working with direct trade growers, Melanie explained why she created Sassy Bean and how she created her coffee blends and personas. In addition to Feisty Fiona, she offers Blissful Betty, Logical Lisa and Calmly Karen; and explained that we all know someone like these personas, and deliberately chose the perfect beans and roast type for each one.
A small batch roaster, their beans are farmed, roasted and delivered with a feminine touch. As listed on their website, “Sassy Bean coffee celebrates women around the world in their hustle, their drive, and their success.” Melanie is currently working with a woman run farm in Costa Rica, and her goal is to one day be totally woman run, from farm to table.
