In this episode, Genny spoke with Shelby Olson, co-owner (along with her partner Evgeny Gotfrid) of Beauty Bark, a local Winnipeg company that produces Canada’s first naturally sweetened chocolate bark made with organic cacao and organic mushroom extracts.
Shelby shared the story of how and why they created Beauty Bark. She found that eating chocolate started to upset her system, affecting the inside and outside of her body, especially during certain times of the month. She knew there had to be a healthier product out there but when she couldn’t find it, she decided that she would create one for herself.
After experimenting with different ingredients, she and Evgeny created a chocolate that contains no refined sugar and is sweetened with the purest maple syrup. They also added functional mushroom extracts (known for their incredible health benefits), selecting Chaga and Tremella, two powerful mushrooms known for their immune-boosting, digestion-improving, and skin benefitting properties. They wanted a guilt-free chocolate that not only tastes delicious and promotes overall health and well-being, but one that you can feel good about.
