59 - Chat with Sylvia Sunstrum, Menopause and Midlife

Did you know that during menopause, the time that marks the end of a woman’s menstrual cycle (typically between the ages of 45 and 55), women’s hormones start to change and the production of estrogen and progesterone decreases? This drop in estrogen can cause many symptoms such as “hot flashes” or “night sweats” – that sudden feeling of warmth in the upper body, accompanied by a flushed face and sweating.

In episode 59, Genny shared how drinking hot coffee can sometimes cause hot flashes during the day or night sweats if she’s had a glass of red wine in the evening. To understand more about menopause and the effects on women in their midlife, she invited Sylvia Sunstrum to share her thoughts and experience on the subject.

Sylvia is a breast cancer survivor who inspires and educates midlife women to take control of their health through her Instagram account sassy_withstyle. After her mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, she got tested and discovered she carried the BRCA (BReast CAncer) gene, she decided to get her ovaries removed, which put her into surgical menopause. At the time, she didn’t associate her systems with menopause but then she put her efforts into a natural healthcare journey, while learning more about menopause, the symptoms and how to recognize them, treat them, and learn to embrace and celebrate this transition in life.
